Recipe Collection

The book is a compilation of more than 100 recipes collected from the traders and customers of Ballyvaughan Farmers’ Market and offered as tried and tested recipes, some passed down through generations of families.  These delicious recipes are mostly easy to manage, many with ingredients which can be bought at the Ballyvaughan Farmers’ Market each Saturday during the trading season.

Alongside the recipes is an interesting collection of facts about trading in the area in the past, growing herbs and natural remedies. The mother of Slow Food Ireland also has a word or two to say about the market.  The pages are decorated with original artwork from undiscovered artists associated with the market and living in the local area as well as photographs of traders, past and present.

As the printing costs have been funded by LEADER and local businesses, Ballyvaughan Farmers’ Market is in a position to commit all the proceeds from the book to a community fund in order to support the development of local projects

Since the launch of the Ballyvaughan Farmers Market’s “Recipe Collection” earlier this year, there has been an unexpected huge demand for the book.  The successful launch on 3rd June this year, attended by nearly 200 people should have been our indication as to how successful the book was going to be.  Even before the launch there was a bubble of excitement from everyone that was given a “sneak preview” of the format of the book.  Only three months after the launch, all 1,000 copies had been distributed to local retailers in North Clare and we had received payment for three quarters of them.  We are delighted that the local shops are still demanding to stock the book.  As many shops had sold out we found ourselves having to order a reprint of the book which we hope will keep shops supplied to the end of the season and into the Christmas season.  These extra 500 copies are still selling very well in the local area and through the website.  Please remember the book when looking for inspiring ideas for Christmas presents for family and friends.

The Community Fund that benefits from the revenue from sales of the cookbook will be ready to administer in January 2011.  Final decisions on the running of the fund are being made and the operation will be communicated to the members and local community in due course.  This is another opportunity to promote Ballyvaughan Farmers Market to the benefit of all the members.
