Harvest Day
There was no shortage of activity at Ballyvaughan Farmers Market when they celebrated their first ever HARVEST DAY. As well as offering the standard quality local produce that has become expected of the market, now in its seventh year, many other activities were organised. There were demonstrations of hazel weaving by Alan Griffith while his “better half”, Liz skillfully demonstrated the old art of butter churning.
Many traders offered food tastings from their stalls brimming with goodies and the air was full of clucking and chirping from the selection of live farm birds. When Declan Hunt from Kilfenora started the live music the atmosphere changed again and many customers were tempted to sit and enjoy the music with a cup of soup or bowl of Chilli from Mrs Kelly’s stall.
There was a facinating reminder of a bygone age as antique dairy equipment could be found amongst the displays, some dating back to the 18th century. In contrast Barry O’Donovan and David Kelly demonstrated the very up-to-date electronic gadgets made recently at the weekly electronics class by the members of the Ballyvaughan based “Knitting Club”.
A huge thank you to everyone who attended the Harvest day, It was a resounding success!

Schools Promotion 2009

Continuing the message first introduced to Ballyvaughan NS and Fanore NS last year, members of the organising committee of Ballyvaughan Farmers Market traveled to both schools on 16 and 17 June to promote healthy eating while introducing products and produce available at the farmers market. Both schools took pleasure in learning about making healthy food choices and sampled many delights offered by Tracey Kelly, Liz Griffith, Annie Nolan and Finola Costello all traders at BALLYVAUGHAN FARMERS MARKET.
